Beautiful Bordeaux
Just a few pictures of our few days in Bordeaux. Our hotel in a beautiful historic building was only a 5 minute walk from the main city centre and a 5 minute walk from the grand promenade which stretches for kilometres along the Garonne River. Thankfully we were upgraded to a room on the first floor instead of the original third floor room. As you can see, it was a long trek up to the top of the staircase. The Garonne River looks to be about the same size as the Brisbane River and it has recently had the addition of a new opening bridge which will allow passenger liners to sail right into the heart of Bordeaux. We were lucky enough on Sunday afternoon to be on a river boat tour when the bridge was raised and only the third passenger ship ever to come into Bordeaux travelled along the river alongside our little tour boat.
The photo of one of the main streets in the centre of town shows some of the 10 million visitors who come to Bordeaux each year. This is a picture of a Sunday afternoon crowd a month before the real summer crowds arrive.
All in all a very easy city to visit with a wonderful tram network criss crossing the city, making everything very accessible.
Bye for now, will post again soon with some highlights of our stop off in Lourdes.
The hotel looks beautiful! What a treat for you to see a big passenger ship cruise on by...x
