We met another Australian couple on the last stage of our journey into San Sebastian. They were also taking the local train from Hendaye on the French Spanish border into San Sebastian but only for a day trip, there have not been many Australian travellers so it was nice to chat to some other Australians.
We had three days walking and exploring much of San Sebastian including the streets of the old town. We had one whole day of rain while there so it gave us a chance to happily wander around one of the many museums which are in the city. The Museum of San Telmo occupies a beautifully presented ancient building which was previously a Dominican monastery.
This is the way all food is served in all cafe's for lunch and dinner in Northern spain. Diners choose the portions they want from the selections on display and pay at the end of the bar according to which things they have chosen. We would love to have tried some of the delicious looking food but the thought of all those hands (possibly unwashed) and sleeves reaching over the top of every serving plate, we just could not bring ourselves to it.

Hi again - a couple of these pics look like they could have been taken down the break wall at the Jetty! Well, almost...our rock wall is a little more freeform then the concrete blocks there. Looks like another lovely spot to explore, and yes, an interesting way to serve food in cafes' - glad we don't do it that way. x x x
ReplyDeleteHi Linda & David! We really enjoyed Sans Sebastian too... so many great tapa restaurants and a lovely atmosphere by the seaside! x
